Hey there. Thanks for stopping by. My name is John Knight, owner and operator of Studio Forty6.
I have been fortunate enough to work and learn from some of the most elite people and companies around the world shaping the creative content landscape today. I've worn many different hats, from illustrator to graphic designer to art director to senior producer to builder. Each transition taught me a different creative perspective of the world. And through all those various creative, and sometimes not so creative, ups and downs one thing has always remained constant - I love to build and create with my hands.
In 2011 I was able to marry all the various design experiences I had accumulated in the publishing and marketing worlds with the passion of using power tools and making sawdust. I was opportunistic of an opening as a Senior Producer at Meredith Corporation, one of the largest and well-respected publishing companies in the country. I joined a small, exceptionally talented team in their marketing department challenged with creating high-end shelter magazine makeovers and DIY furniture projects for one of their largest clients, Lowe's Creative Ideas. We grew a small quarterly magazine and online presence into a diverse social media portfolio that included multi-lingual magazines, multiple seasonal editions and specialty issues, tablet versions complete with videos and interactive apps and a completely revised online experience. I became acutely aware and was amazed by the online community of fellow makers inspiring people to create things with their hands. Eventually, I knew I wanted to be more personally connected to that group and that influence. That’s when Studio Forty6 was created.
I was raised on the premise that if you didn't have it, couldn't afford it or didn't know how to do it then you tinkered around until you could do it yourself or made it happen. Somewhere in that thinking is probably why my portfolio seems so diverse. I like doing things that are out of my comfort zone. I bring a creative spark, grit and ingenuity to most any challenge set in front of me. Whether it’s a makeover or DIY project for a publication or a custom piece of furniture or remodel, I have the experience and skills to make it happen.
I can produce photo-ready makeovers and DIY project builds with the ability to fully illustrate the environments or how-to processes before a hammer is even picked up. For the homeowner I bring current and on-trend design consultation, furniture builds and general contracting to make your home feel as though it is an extension of you and your passions. Take a moment and have a look at my portfolio for a full list of clients and examples of my work.
Reach out and send me an email. I'm always looking for my next challenge. And don't forget to follow me on Instagram and Facebook for a glimpse at my current projects.
